The Italian luxury brand Bulgari has once again set a new benchmark by creating the world's thinnest mechanical watch. The latest model, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC, boasts a mere 1.7mm in thickness. This achievement surpasses their previous records, as well as a recent challenge posed by Richard Mille’s 2022 release of the 1.75mm RM UP-01 Ferrari watch. The new Bulgari watch features an “optimized” 40mm case, described as “even thinner than a coin.” Impressively, Bulgari has engineered the watch to house all 170 components necessary for its operation within this slender profile, including an openwork dial that allows a glimpse of the mechanisms in action.

The watch's mainplate is made of tungsten carbide, which supports all moving parts, while titanium is used for the bracelet, lugs, and bezel. This model stands out as a certified chronometer, an endorsement by the Swiss Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) affirming its precise timekeeping after rigorous testing. Notably, the back of the watch features a “datamatrix” engraving, which according to Bulgari managing director Antoine Pin, provides a "digital experience of your watch" and access to comprehensive information about the watch, including warranty and user manual details. Pin did not confirm if this matrix also connects to an NFT, unlike Bulgari’s previous ultra-thin models.
