ROLEX REVEALED A NEW DAY-DATE AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS

At the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night, Rolex teased a glimpse of its latest offering: a Day-Date 40 in Everose gold. The timepiece made a brief cameo at the conclusion of a video presentation by the Swiss watchmaker, just before the main event. While the montage highlighted various Hollywood luminaries sporting Rolex watches in different cinematic settings, it was the new Day-Date that stole the spotlight.

Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date was a pioneering creation, being the first wristwatch to simultaneously display the date and day of the week. Positioned at 3 o'clock beneath a Cyclops lens, the date is easily legible, while the full spelling of the day appears in an arched window at 12 o'clock. (This feature supports 26 different languages for the weekday.) The mechanism ensures a seamless and immediate transition of both the day and date. Originally available in a 36 mm case, the model now offers a larger 40 mm option, both powered by the in-house caliber 3255. Rolex touts this self-winding mechanical movement for its exceptional performance and a remarkable power reserve of around 70 hours. The Day-Date has always been crafted from precious metals, such as 18-carat yellow, white, or Everose gold, as well as 950 platinum. Its iconic President bracelet, specially designed for the Day-Date, is synonymous with the model, earning it the moniker "presidents' watch." The bezel options range from fluted to diamond-set. The latest rendition, in 18-carat Everose gold, features a sizable 40 mm case. The slate-gray dial boasts a captivating ombré effect, complemented by classic Roman numerals and the distinctive day/date indicators.
